In 1996 I started this project in Southeast Portland in one of the neighborhoods I grew up in. When I lived there, this was a railroad with a little freight train running back-and-forth twice a day. It was to be converted into a trail and I wanted to coordinate tree plantings for the kids in that neighborhood. Over the past 28 years 14,000 kids have planted over 90,000 native plants during a couple hundred plantings.
